Springtime in the land of light

Spring is here at last. After a long, worrisome winter, our glorious sun is out again, dominating the landscape, dominating the people, dominating our lives. You just throw your gaze out of the window and the glaring blue of the sky tranquilizes your every perception.

People are out again, strolling on the seaside boulevards, sipping coffee in the sun-drenched, outdoor cafeterias and bars, smiling, joking. At the very least, some people are… After last year’s traumas, it is somehow amazing to feel some life springing again from the cracks in the depressing financial tombstone. The lyrics of Dionyssis Savvopoulos, our national bard, the Greek Bob Dylan, come to mind “if we have jumped over this winter, we have escaped for another ten years…”

In the land of the sizzling sunlight, not much can go wrong for much longer…
